Top Reasons for Total Body Workouts
If you workout out in a gymnasium, take a look around. You may almost everyone doing isolation exercises ( biceps curls, leg curls, triceps extensions, etc . ) recently, it has become apparent this is not a good way to workout. Employing a complete full body| total body} workout instead of isolation exercises can decrease the quantity of time you spend in the gym AND get you better results!
Total body workouts are one of the finest paths to get fantastic results quickly and efficiently. Full body work-outs balance out the body in order that it works together as a functional unit. Unlike traditional exercise routines which tend to focus on isolating one area of the body, a total Body Workout will burn calories at a much quicker rate as the heart must pump blood all over the body instead of one muscle grouping. Each area of the body must work hard at the same time which requires far more energy. Interpretation - you get miles better ends in a far shorter amount of time.
A good total body workout should include multi-planar and multi joint movements and put greater stress on balance, coordination, agility, stamina, strength, and power. Each of these areas is imperative for developing a strong, lean, powerful body that does not break down as we get older. Normal workouts lack in many of these areas giving you a poor workout. Conventional exercise programs force the body to compensate using stronger muscles, like the chest and biceps. When this happens, the stronger muscles continue to get stronger and the weaker muscles continue to get weaker. The body gets more out of balance which can lead to wounds and poor overall results. When you target just a few muscle groups that you need to make gains in, while neglecting the others, you actually slow down your results! by balancing out the body, you get yourself on the fast lane to your goals. That's why a total total body|n extensive} workout is far more superior to the normal isolate muscle exercises you'll see the majority doing in the gymnasium.
The Dynamics of Motion system excels at total body exercise programs. The breakthrough workout that combines Yoga & Pilates. |
Reviews
I have been practising yoga for a few years now but, as the gym is no longer convenient, I decided to have my DVD to practice in the house and found this interesting from previous reviews. I found the exercises to be well explained (and the instructor comments are not that cheesy :-) and varied. I really liked the grouping so that you can decide which area of the body to work and the 15 minutes per workout is a good time. Personally, after having tried all four workouts, I'm now going to stick to the advanced one and take a pick from the rest for variety. If you have been practising yoga for a while, this will be a bit light but it's great for beginners and if you just want to catch up with a bit of exercise without having to leave the house.
This woman is brilliant. I bought this when I first started yoga and pilates seven years ago and I use her stretches as the basis of my own routines and still do the video now. I've bought many DVDs since for variety but none are as good as this. It is good that she talks a lot because in a class the instructor would be able to correct you, so her accurate descriptions of the stretches really help you get it right.
Started this dvd 4 months after baby born so was not in great shape. However, I found it far too easy and didn't feel it challenging me at all. Thought I was doing a warmup then realised it was the actual routine! I'd recommend this as a starter if your fitness levels are quite poor but there are much better dvds out there. Even Gerri Haliwell's is good in comparrison.
Her voice is truly annoying!!! The DVD itself is great, and it's very similar to the class I also go to, which is what I was looking for, but as there's no music in the background, her voice does grate a little. I'm going to try it again with a CD on, and see how I get on... The exercises themselves are great, and as you can push yourself as much as you like, this DVD is probably suitable for all levels. I'm going to Spain on holiday tomorrow, and my boyfriend is keen to have a go, so I'm taking it with me. He's never done anything like this before, so it should be interesting...!
I found this disappointing, and the woman irritating to listen to. Had hoped it would be a great combination of two things I love, but it does not give you the best of either discipline. I already have a yoga DVD I love and have followed for several years, and a pilates DVD I don't love quite so much but boy does it give me a workout. So I thought a combined program must be ideal. Not this one, I guess. The routines on this DVD don't seem to be as effective as either of my favorites; I didn't feel anything after doing these, whereas my others definitely do feel like I've been toned up and stretched out. I find this very weak; it might be best for those who have never done either yoga or pilates of any kind before. I also have to agree with others who mention how annoying this woman's speaking voice is -- I cannot stand to listen to her. I realize she's trying to sound calming and soothing but it just comes across as smarmy, patronizing, and little phony -- what's with the "Baaaaahhhh-dy" for "body"?? I really think I'll dump this one in the bargain bin. Sorry but it just doesn't work for me, on more than one level.

Jane Fonda - Total Body Sculpting [VHS] Average Rating: ![]() |

As one of the highest-profile American exercise mavens, Jane Fonda knows how to work it, and in Total Body Sculpting, she's working all of it with weights. Setting muscle tone and strength as goals, Fonda has designed the segments of Total Body Sculpting as a pair of complementary 25-minute sequences... |

This is fairly straight forward and easy workout. That said, it is effective and has its place in a collection if you mix it with perhaps a half an hour cardio/aerobic/step vid beforehand to get the muscles warm and feel as if you've had a decent workout as this would finish it off with the toning.
This tape is excellent for toning. It has 2 separate workouts using weights that are interesting, not too difficult and really worked to tone my arms, back, legs and butt in just a few weeks even after not exercising with weights in a long while. I highly recommend it for women like me who are in their 40's and losing tone in our muscles. It's a great follow up to 20 minutes brisk walk or on the bike.
I am really disappointed by this video: it is basically needed to buy several types of weights to be able to use it correctly, and I don't feel that the exercises are really intense. I must say that loved the "abs, buns and thighs" video which I use every day and I strongly advise it.
I really like this video because there is no nonsense, no smiling bimbos leaping around in the background, it's just you and Jane. It really does feel like she is in the room with you, and you can really focus on the moves. These two workouts are particularly good for upper body.
when i first bought this i was a bit sceptical because it is quite old, set in a studio and when you first hear Jane talk you can't help but laugh - soooo american!! anyway when you actually do this workout it is inspiring and challenging enough to feel the effect and complete it. It covers all the body thoroughly and i know i will be doing this for many more weeks because Jane is a brilliant, likable motivator!

Power Yoga Total Body [DVD] [2005] Average Rating: ![]() |

The dvd is set in gorgeous surroundings compared to the boring white rooms like other yoga dvds. Oddly it came up black and white on one of my small dvd players but on the main one where i wanted to play it it came up in colour? The dvd starts off with lots of sun salutations. Rodney speaks with an american accent so is easy to understand. He doesn't count the seconds in the movements but encourages you to stretch in different places and correct your posture so you find yourself putting a lot of effort in, which really energises you. You need to already have done a little bit of yoga to follow his positions but the positions are gradually added in so it moves at a good pace. The movements all flow together so there is not pausing to talk, which I like. The movements then go on to some forward bends and then some ground work including bow positions and bridge, which is held for quite a while so I would recommend to have already practiced this. I only do half the dvd each time as it lasts and hour but it is split into four 15min sections when you press the scan button on the remote so it is easy to get back to where you were. This dvd is for someone who has done some yoga but is wanting something a bit more varied and challenging. Also ideal if you want to tone your legs and arms as the warrior and push up positions require some effort!
I was nervous about buying this, as many reviewers claimed it was too difficult for beginners, but I have to disagree with them. As with all yoga DVDs, it is difficult to know if you are doing the poses correctly if you have never been to a class. Because of this, I highly recommend attend attending a class to ensure your form is correct before you try any DVD out at home. Failing that, researching all the basic poses properly online before you start (including the beginner variants, and using blocks and straps) is essential. Particularly pay attention to using blocks (or large books or DVD boxsets, whatever you have) with standing poses- do not expect to be able to do them like Rodney on your first try! If you already know the basics, but are a little out of practice (like I was), jump right in and give it a go. Rodney explains all the moves clearly, and paces the practice perfectly for a power yoga session. Some claim it is too fast. If this is the case for you, then you may be better suited to a different style of yoga (Hatha or Iyengar spring to mind if you want something slow, or Vinyasa if you want something a step down from this DVD). I work up a great sweat when I'm using this DVD, and I'm still doing mostly basic variants on it, so I think it will last me a long time, and I've already lost 1 inch off my hips in a couple of weeks of use, so happy bonus. It also leaves you feeling wonderfully refreshed and relaxed afterwards. I highly recommend this to anyone who wants to practice power yoga at home.
An excellent power yoga dvd. I found this dvd very easy to follow, easy to listen to and the location makes you feel like you're somewhere beautiful even though you may only be in your front room! I would definitely recommend this yoga dvd to those who have practised yoga in the past and also to those who want to take up power yoga in the future. Rodney Yee is an excellent teacher!
I'd only done one yoga video (yes, video, you can see how long ago I did it) about 10 years ago - Ali McGraw's one - and wasn't sure that my level would be up to Rodney Yee. Granted I did the same yoga video for several years and continued on to various forms of dance, so I'm relatively fit, but I certainly didn't think I'd be flexible enough. Lee's workout, however, was just right. It relies a lot on, and builds, strength and balance. The moves are challenging but never painful (of course, you should never push your muscles into pain in yoga, this goes without saying). The only one I still don't do is the crab (pure fear, mostly), but Lee's calm voice just tells you to sit out the ones you're not comfortable with until you're ready, so I'm happy with that. It is power yoga - I normally work up a sweat within ten minutes and, without even noticing which excercise does it, seem to work out my abs unlike any other routine. Rodney is a really good, clear, calming, encouraging instructor and I would recommend this to anyone but a complete beginner.
I have had this DVD for some time now (along with others of Rodney). I have done yoga in the gym, but in the main have acquired my skills from DVDs. I have to say this is one that I really enjoy. At first it took a lot to accomplish the whole DVD in terms of the stamina and strength required. There are balance poses on one leg which take a lot of concentration, but for me it was the back bend which was the most difficult as I had not done this since I was in my 20s. However, if you practise it will come. The DVD starts with easy moves to get you warmed up and gradually works up to harder poses. The DVD is a continuous practice and there are no breaks. When I get to the end I feel energised, and peaceful at the same time. Since using this DVD I have found my stamina, strength and flexibility all to have improved. GREAT! I think it would not be unsuitable for beginners as long as they viewed it through a couple of times before starting. Rodney gives good instructions, so once you know the poses you don't need to keep an eye on the TV the whole time. Also the instructions actually keep up with the pace of your movement very well.
